Vegetarian Fourth of July Menu Ideas

The 4th of July always seems to be defined by what meat someone can throw on a grill + feed the crowd. Whether you are a vegetarian going to a cookout or hosting a party for Independence Day, you might find yourself in a pickle not knowing what to eat or cook! I am here to tell you, there are so many more options than just wings, ribs, and burgers! Have yourself a meatless Independence Day celebration or simply put a few more plants on your party menu this year.

First things first, a good BBQ sauce

Don’t have a plant-based barbeque sauce recipe you love? You do now! My recipe for Easy Homemade Vegan Barbeque Sauce is perfectly plant-based + super easy to whip up in minutes.  No sugar, no worcestershire sauce, no meat! I created this recipe so that you can have the perfect BBQ sauce to use on just about anything.  I don’t know how I ever survived without it!

Put one of these BBQ sauce recipes on your menu:

Next, is a good hummus

If you are going to a party, bring homemade hummus! People love homemade hummus + all the hummus eating accessories. Including crackers, chips, chopped veggies, and pita. Make me hummus + invite me to your party! I’ll be there. New to hummus, I’ve got you covered. Now onto the cookout salads

Who doesn’t love a good salad at a cookout. I am here for it. All the cookout salads, all day, any day. Cookout salads are just a special kind of delicious. Not ‘pack my lunch box’ salad, but ‘let’s party’ salad. I know you know. If you don’t, try one of these:

How about a plant-based burger?

Me please! So many options! My personal favorite store-bought burgers are Beyond Meat Grillers and Dr. Praeger’s California Burger. Try a few + pick your favorite.

Don’t forget the veggie hot dogs! Need help picking a fake meat? Read this:The Vegetarian’s Guide to Plant-Based Meat Alternatives.

If you are reading this + are not vegetarian. I am here for you. Some burger advice when cooking a plant-based burger for your vegetarian friends. First, please keep our burgers separate from the meat items. This can be done by either grilling them first or using aluminum foil or a baking sheet on the grill. Second, dress our burger just like you would yours.  We don’t want a grain bun or a chunk of lettuce as a bun.  We don’t eat meat but we do eat flavor + it is a party! Buns, vegan or dairy cheese, condiments, pickles, if it’s on your burger please put it on mine.

Let’s make our own burgers:

Above all, enjoy lots of good 4th of July food in the company of good people. Let the food rules go, be present, move a little, and load up your plate in red, white and blue! ❤️🤍💙

If you celebrate 4th of July or you don’t,
