Healthy + protein-packed, high fiber, oil-free + did I mention healthy? 5 minutes, a few plant-based ingredients (that you probably already have in your kitchen) + a blender is all you need to make this Oil-Free Edamame Hummus! Dunk your veggies in it, spread it on a bagel, layer it into a wrap, the options are endless!
I have SO MANY chickpea recipes on this blog! If you know me, you know I love chick peas. I am a chick pea junkie. I love chick pea no-tuna salad + chana masala + chick peas in my air fryer, chick peas blended up into a homemade falafel + even pumpkin veggie burgers. This time, I added a little twist! EDAMAME! Yep, that’s right shelled soybeans! Talk about upping the protein + fiber game. You are welcome.
Tara’s Tips for Perfect Oil-Free Everything Bagel Hummus:
- Start with frozen shelled soybeans (edamame). Place one cup in a strainer/colander and run under warm water until defrosted. No need to heat them.
- The SECRET ingredient in making perfect hummus with no oil? ICE WATER! Yep, you heard me correctly. Ice water. Works every time to create perfect consistency and you do not need the oil.
- Make sure your tahini only has one ingredient: sesame seeds! You don’t need anything else in there!!!! Making oil-free hummus out of ingredients with added oils does not make sense … check your labels!
- I added a jalapeno in mine. This takes the spice level up. You can opt to leave it out or remove the seeds to bring the spice level down.
- Store leftovers in a glass, airtight container for up to 7 days. This does not freeze well because it does not defrost with a good consistency. Perfect to make ahead on weekends and use in sandwiches or on salads for meal prep.

Oil-Free Edamame Hummus
The healthiest hummus EVER! You will NEVER want to buy store-bought hummus again after you try this easy + yummy Oil-Free Edamame Hummus recipe! Plant-Based Snack Perfection! YUM!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of chickpeas
- 1 cup Edamame (shelled soybeans)
- ¼ cup tahini (be sure your tahini has only one ingredient: sesame seeds!)
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 jalapeno (to taste/remove seeds to decrease spice level)
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 cup ice water
Directions
- Step 1 Combine all ingredients except ice water in a blender or food processor.
- Step 2 Pulse a few times to initially combine the ingredients.
- Step 3 Pause your blender or food processor, open + scrape down the sides.
- Step 4 Add ice water and blend until smooth.
- Step 5 Top with black pepper and/or chopped cilantro to taste.
- Step 6 Eat or serve immediately or store in an airtight glass container for up to 7 days.
