This Kalamata Olive Hummus Recipe is ready in minutes and is absolute snack perfection! Protein-packed chickpeas, creamy tahini, fragrant garlic, and olives … what a wonderful combination! Made completely oil-free, in one blender, and ready in 5 minutes!
5 Ingredients + 5 Minutes
Does it get any better? Nope! All you need is a few simple ingredients, and a blender or food processor. I prefer to make hummus in a blender because I think it turns out smoother but you really can use either one. I didn’t count the water or salt in the 5 ingredients ☺but they are totally necessary.
If you know me, you know I love chick peas. I love chick pea no-tuna salad + chana masala + chick peas in my air fryer + even chick peas blended up into a homemade falafel + Pumpkin Veggie Burgers. I am a chick pea junkie. So, imagine how happy I was when I figured out how to make hummus actually taste good without any oil ☺!
Tara’s Tips for Perfect Kalamata Olive Hummus:
- Options for your chickpeas: use one can (drained and rinsed) or you can start with dry beans.
- If starting with dry garbanzo beans: place one cup of beans + 3 cups of water in instant pot, press manual and adjust timer to 40 minutes, allow pressure to release naturally, drain and cool.
- One and a half cups of cooked garbanzo beans = 1 can.
- The SECRET ingredient in making perfect hummus? ICE WATER! Yep, you heard me correctly. Ice water. Works every time to create perfect consistency and you do not need the oil.
- Make sure your tahini only has one ingredient: sesame seeds! You don’t need anything else in there!!!! Making oil-free hummus out of ingredients with added oils does not make sense …. check your labels!
- Store leftovers in a glass, airtight container for up to 7 days. This does not freeze well because it does not defrost with a good consistency.
