Tara’s Tips to Learn How to Make Toasted Quinoa

  • Start with my article on Quinoa for Beginners to learn all about why and how we should be eating lots of quinoa!
  • Start with cooked quinoa (my EASY method for Instant Pot Quinoa right here)
  • If you do not have an instant pot, you can cook your quinoa stove top by adding 1 cup rinsed quinoa and 2 cups water to a medium pot, bring to boil, cook for 10 minutes with the cover on. Immediately uncover and fluff with a fork.
  • RINSE YOUR QUINOA! I cannot stress this enough. You MUST rinse it first! Rinsing it washes away the coating called saponin. If you don’t rinse it … it will taste like soap!
  • Change up your spices.  If you love cumin or ground chipotle pepper or ground mustard, sprinkle on a teaspoon.
  • Swap out the pepper.  I use ground red chili pepper powder.  You can use chipotle pepper powder, roasted red pepper flakes, or 5 spice powder.  Use your favorite.
  • Use sweet seasonings.  Easily make this a breakfast or dessert food by swapping out the spices for cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or ground ginger powder.
  • Optional but awesome: turn your oven to a low broil for the last few minutes of cooking to give the quinoa an extra crunch, take the tray out when brown to your liking or you hear them start to pop.
