I Love Chickpeas!

Why? Chickpeas are just one of those beans that I can’t say enough great things about: 12g protein per serving, have a low glycemic index so keeps you fuller longer, slower to digest, and 35g of fiber. This recipe turns them into the perfect spicy, crunchy any-time snack!

Tara’s Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Buffalo Chickpeas:

  • Chickpeas:

    • Cook your garbanzo beans stove-top: Rinse + soak your dry beans, soak them overnight, then simmer in a pot of water for 90 minutes.  If you don’t soak them, they need to cook for about 3 hours or until soft enough to pierce with a fork.
    • Instant Pot cooking: Place 2 cups dry beans in the pot (rinse them first), 6 cups water, 1 tsp salt (I like Himalayan Pink Sea Salt with this one), press ‘beans’ and adjust time to 35 minutes, when time is up let the steam release naturally.  That’s it!
    • You can also use a can of garbanzo beans drained + rinsed, then dry them out with a towel or air dry for 10 minutes
  • Air Frying

    • Shake the basket after 5 minutes of cooking or they will stick together
    • Check your spice level at the 10 minute cooking point. If you want to turn up the heat, add more buffalo sauce + cook again for 2 minutes.
  • Serving

    • Eat them on their own
    • Sprinkle on top of a salad for a little crunch
    • Perfect for snack meal-prep, store in a glass container in the refrigerator, you can air fry them for a few minutes when you are ready to eat them if you want them crispy again.

The perfect snack! A healthy chickpea made into a crunchy + spicy snack in 10 minutes! Yum!

Ingredients
  • 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans) or 2 cups cooked
  • 3 tbsp buffalo hot sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees.
  • Step 2 If using canned chickpeas: drain, rinse, and pat them dry.
  • Step 3 If using cooked chickpeas, allow to cool to room temperature, pat dry.
  • Step 4 Place beans and hot sauce in a bowl and gently stir until each bean is coated with hot sauce, sprinkle with salt.
  • Step 5 Place in air fryer basket and cook coated chick peas in air fryer for 5 minutes, give them a good shake to prevent sticking, cook an additional 5 minutes. Continue to cook in 5 minute increments until beans are golden brown and crispy or until they “pop”.
  • Step 6 Carefully remove from air fryer.
  • Step 7 Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or on top of a salad. Store any leftovers in a glass container. When ready to eat, heat in air fryer at 400 degrees until crispy. Enjoy!
