Turn a chickpea into a healthy + easy + flavorful snack with these Air Fryer BBQ Chickpeas! In 15 minutes you have yourself a crispy snack or side dish that is packed with healthy, plant-based protein!!! Only 2 ingredients!
I love chickpeas! Why? Chickpeas are just one of those beans that I can’t say enough great things about: 12g protein per serving, have a low glycemic index so keeps you fuller longer, slower to digest, and 35g of fiber (what?!?).
Start With Dry Beans Or Use Canned Beans
- Canned Beans: You can use a can of garbanzo beans for this recipe. Super easy + works perfectly!
- Stove-Top: To cook them stove-top you will need to soak them overnight and simmer in a pot of water for 90 minutes. If you don’t soak them, they need to cook for about 4 hours. Simply put the chickpeas in the pot and add enough water to cover the beans plus one inch.
- Instant Pot: To cook Chickpeas in the Instant Pot, place 2 cups dry beans in the pot, 6 cups water, 1 tsp salt, press ‘manual’ and adjust time to 60 minutes, when time is up let the steam release naturally. That’s it! If you choose to soak your chickpeas, soak them for 4 hours, drain the water, place chickpeas plus 4 cups water + 1 tsp salt in your Instant Pot. Press manual and adjust the timer to 30 minutes, allow the steam to release on its own for 30 minutes before opening the cover.
- I buy a big bag of dry garbanzo beans so that I always have them in my kitchen. Dried beans are perfect for making a double batch on the weekends in my Instant Pot. This is one of those 10 Things To Do On Weekends To Make Weeknight Cooking Easier. I store the cooked beans in a glass container and take them out when I need them for Cilantro Jalapeno Hummus or Cake Batter Dessert Hummus or Edible Cookie Dough or Chana Masala!
