Sometimes you just NEED a cookie. How about a cookie that is vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, gluten free, and still tastes SO GOOD?!?!?!? Today I bring you one of my favorite cookie recipes. Vegan Oat Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies. Moist + chewy + chocolatey + perfect in every way.
I LOVE baking with oat flour! Did you know oat flour is gluten free?!?! It is! An unrefined flour you can actually feel good about using in your recipes! Nothing fancy about it. Simply rolled oats ground into a flour.
Tara’s Tips for Perfect
Vegan Oat Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies:
- Can’t find oat flour in the store? You can easily grind up your own in a blender or food processor. Simply put old fashioned rolled oats (not the quick cook or steel cut) into the blender or food processor and pulse until a fine flour forms. Either one will work exactly the same in recipes!
- Have fun with these! As you can see in the photos, they are ahhhhmazing turned into a giant cookie. 27 small ones or a few big ones still taste (and cook) the same.
- Make sure you line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner to prevent any sticking.
- Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon measure to measure out your cookies so that they are all the same size and cook evenly (unless you are going with the giant cookie option).
- I love healthy alternatives to refined white/all-purpose flour. In order to keep these refined flour free, I used oat flour. I did not test this recipe with all-purpose flour or any other kind of flour. Let me know if you try it with a different flour in the comments!
Vegan Oat Flour Chocolate Chip Cookies
These oat flour cookies contain no gluten, no eggs, and no dairy but still have all the flavor! Yummy + Easy + HEALTHY!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups oat flour
- 3/4 cup almond flour (if nut free, sub coconut flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp cornstarch or arrowroot
- 3/4 cup vegan butter (I use Miyoko's, use real butter if not vegan)
- 1/4 cup plant-based milk (I use oat milk, sub dairy milk if not vegan)
- 1 cup raw turbinado sugar (can sub brown sugar)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups dairy free mini chocolate chips (I use Enjoy Life Foods)
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
- Step 2 Whisk the flour, salt, baking soda, and cornstarch together in a large bowl.
- Step 3 Add the vegan butter, plant-based milk, sugar, and vanilla to the bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl. Mix ingredients together on low with stand mixer or electric mixer until fully combined.
- Step 4 Slowly add in the flour mixture and continue to stir or mix with stand mixer on low until all flour is folded into the wet mixture and a dough has formed.
- Step 5 Fold in the dairy free chocolate chips.
- Step 6 Using a cookie scoop or measuring spoon, scoop 1 1/2 tbsp of cookie dough onto a parchment paper or silicone baking sheet lined cookie sheet, spaced evenly apart. It is best to roll each one into a ball and flatten the top just a little.
- Step 7 Bake in a 350 degree oven for 11 minutes or until the edges are just golden brown to your liking.
- Step 8 Store any leftovers in a glass airtight container for up to 10 days.
