These crinkle cut sweet potato fries turn out perfectly crispy on the outside while staying soft + super delicious on the inside. They are WAY healthier than any you will find in the store. PLUS they are ready in under 30 minutes, gluten free, vegan, and make the perfect pairing with a veggie burger or salad. No deep frying involved in the making of these cuties.
I got the idea to crinkle cut the sweet potatoes when I was digging through a kitchen drawer yesterday and realized that I own a crinkle cutter that I have never used! WHAT?!? I knew in that moment I simply had to crinkle cut something. So, being that I am on a total sweet potato kick right now, sweet potato crinkle fries for the win.
I paired my crinkle cut sweet potato fries with guacamole because I am the kind of girl that likes to dunk my fries. If you are a dunker + love guacamole, here is the only guacamole recipe you will ever need.Β In addition to guacamole, these fries are awesome dunked in chipotle sauce. If you aren’t into dunking your fries, ummmmm, that’s ok, because these are awesome as is.
Tara’s Tips For Making Perfect Crinkle Cut Sweet Potato Fries
- Cut your fries approximately all the same size. This helps with uniform cooking so as not to get some tiny fries that are well done while others are raw on the inside.
- Use a high heat oil such as avocado oil. I typically just lay all of my fries out on a cutting board and spray them with avocado oil spray. Alternatively, place the fries in a bowl, drizzle them with oil and stir to coat each one.
- Oil first, salt and spices second. Don’t change the order.
- Shake the basket a few times while cooking.
- Soak them! Don’t skip this step. This helps get them crispy.
- Don’t have a sweet potato? Love white potatoes better? Use a white potato! White or orange, crinkle them all!

Sweet Potato Crinkle Fries
Better than store bought crinkle cut sweet potato fries. Perfectly crispy on the outside + soft and delicious on the inside! So easy!
Ingredients
- 2 Sweet Potatoes
- Olive Oil or Avocado Spray (enough to coat the fries)
- 1 tsp salt (to taste)
Directions
- Step 1 Wash sweet potatoes well and chop into the shape of fries using crinkle cutter.
- Step 2 Soak the fries for 30 minutes in a large bowl of cool water. Donβt skip this!!!! This step makes them crispier.
- Step 3 Preheat Air Fryer to 325 degrees.
- Step 4 Place cut and soaked sweet potatoes on a large cutting board, dry them with a towel, spray with olive oil and sprinkle with salt to taste.
- Step 5 Transfer sweet potatoes to air fryer basket, cook for 5 minutes, open air fryer and shake the basket, cook for an additional 10-15 minutes shaking the basket every 5 minutes. Cook until your fries are golden brown like mine in the photo. Cook time will vary depending on how thick or thin you cut your fries. Transfer to a serving bowl. Eat or serve immediately. Enjoy!
