What Is Broccolini?
Broccolini, also known as broccolette or baby broccoli, is a mix of the small florets of traditional broccoli with the long stems of Chinese broccoli. This cruciferous vegetable has a more mellow flavor than broccoli with less of a bitter taste. Broccolini definitely tastes better cooked than raw.
To properly prepare broccolini, the bottom part of the stems must be cut off and discarded. If the stems are very thick, cut the entire piece in half lengthwise to ensure adequate cooking.
Broccolini is rich in beta carotene, vitamins A + C, antioxidants, and very high in fiber. With 35 calories per serving and 3 grams of protein, broccolini is an excellent addition to any kitchen – vegetarian or not!

What should you make with your Oil-Free Air Fryer Broccolini?
- Nothing! A lovely snack all on its own!
- Drizzle Vegan Chipotle Mayo or Oil-Free Chipotle Hummus or simple Sriracha or hot sauce over the top!
- Serve alongside Tempeh BLT, Sweet and Spicy Tofu (Oil-Free!), Air Fryer Buffalo Tofu, Pumpkin Veggie Burgers.
Oil-Free Air Fryer Broccolini
This recipe for Oil-Free Air Fryer Broccolini is easy + quick + healthy + will quickly become your favorite veggie!
Ingredients
- 1 1b fresh broccolini, washed + ends trimmed off
- 1/2 tsp salt + black pepper
- 1/4 - 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional/to taste)
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat air fryer to 375 degrees.
- Step 2 Place washed + trimmed broccolini in a shallow bowl, sprinkle with salt + pepper. Spray with a light spray of olive oil spray at this time if using.
- Step 3 Transfer broccolini to air fryer basket. Place basket into air fryer. Set timer to 8 minutes. Shake basket halfway through cooking. After 8 minutes, check broccolini. They are done when the florets begin to brown.Be careful not to overcook as they will dry out.
- Step 4 When done cooking, carefully transfer broccolini to a serving dish. Drizzle with hot sauce or dressing, additional salt + pepper, red pepper flakes to taste. Eat or serve immediately, enjoy!
