My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits

My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits

My inspiration for starting this blog was you! Your curiosity of plant-based living, plant-powered running, maintaining healthy weight over the course of a lifetime, and cooking with clean + real foods.   Above all, my inspiration for starting MyVegetarianFamily.com was your curiosity for how we here at MVF maintain our healthy lifestyles.  My short answer …… healthy habits!!!! My long answer …….. healthy habits!!!!!!!! So, today I am sharing with you my daily checklist of healthy habits.

Tara’s Tuesday Tips:

My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits

The place between stimulus and response is where habit lies.  How you respond (or react) to a stimulus is more important to your overall health than you think.  That place is where good or bad habits form.  This concept is something that I repeat to myself on a daily basis.  When I am tired and don’t want to get up and go for a run but I do anyway …. habit.  I am hungry and I choose an apple and a handful of nuts instead of a bag of chips … habit.  I am tired but I choose to stay up and read or work or watch TV … habit. Well, isn’t that food for thought!

Healthy habits do not have to be complex or rigid. The thought of another list might sound daunting, but you may find that you already do a few of these thing already! The more healthy habits you have for yourself, the more you can give to your work, your hobbies, and the other people in your life.

So …. here you go, my daily top secret MVF healthy habits checklist.

Daily Movement

Top of the list. Super important.  10,000 steps, a 10 mile run, a short bike ride, taking the steps at work, whatever you can fit in, move.  Every single day. Not only my favorite of all the habits on My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits but the MOST important.

Water + Water + More Water

Don’t drink your calories, drink water! Hydration is the key to optimal body functioning from boosting your metabolism to preventing headaches and sluggishness.  Drink water until your urine is clear!

Be Grateful

Find one thing every day to be thankful for.  Some days might be harder than others, but this has been researched countless times.  People that are more mindful of what they are grateful for are more productive, more successful, and happier.

Eat Real Food

Again, some days might be harder than others but choose real, whole foods when possible.  I cannot tell you how important this is to feeling good.  The less of your food that comes out of a package, the better! Another one of my favorites on My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits.  Check out Why You Should Be Eating Green to get you started.

Go Outside

Going outside, even just for a few minutes, can change your mood and your outlook. Most importantly, we need a few minutes of sunlight on our skin every day to give our bodies the most natural source of vitamin D. This prevents depression and can improve brain function.

Schedule Your Sleep

Yep, you heard me. Put sleep on the schedule.  Sleep is just as important to our health as the foods we choose to eat and our exercise habits. You need to allow your body adequate time to reset and detoxify itself.

Don’t Sit Too Long

If you work at a computer, take breaks by scheduling them into your day. Stand and stretch or walk around whenever possible. Sitting too long makes you more tired + grumpy, slows your metabolism and can cause brain fog.

Fast

I am a broken record with this one.  Your body NEEDS some time without food.  It is the only way the body can repair what it needs to repair without focusing on digestion.  Give your body the gift of a few hours of time without food.  I fast for 16 hours every day but you don’t have to fast for that long.  Research has shown us that a simple 8 hour fast will do the trick. New to fasting? Start here.

Do Something Nice For Someone Else

From as simple as a compliment, a check-in text or phone call, a card or an email. Connecting with others doesn’t only benefit them, it benefits you too.  Small acts of kindness on a regular basis are an extremely important part of long-term wellness.  One small gesture every day.  Try it and see how wonderful it is!

Keep Your Surroundings Clean + Minimal

Surprise … you don’t need as much stuff as you have.  You especially don’t need as much stuff out on your counters as you have.  Make it a habit to clean your space every single day.  Yes, I said daily.  Your desk, your counters, dishes, laundry.  You will look forward to going into these spaces if they are neater. There you have it, My Daily Checklist Of Healthy Habits!

Really …. I do these every day!

Turning a new behavior into a healthy habit does not have to be complicated but your daily routines do impact your overall health.  You don’t have to have a lot of extra money, time, or even kitchen skills to create healthy habits.  We can all have access to wellness if we choose it.

Happy Tuesday and Happy June, friends!

All the best,

Tara 💛
