One ingredient = walnuts! It doesn’t get much better than that. The beautiful flavor of the roasted walnut makes it flavorful all on its own without any added oils or sugars. Above all, walnuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids, packed with antioxidants, cancer-fighting polyphenols, and are considered an anti-inflammatory food. Some studies even show that incorporating walnuts in your diet can help you lower your risk of diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and even obesity. You MUST learn how to make walnut butter immediately!
Tara’s Tips For Perfect Homemade Walnut Butter?
- Start with raw walnuts: not roasted, not salted, no added sweeteners or oils
- As the recipe instructions detail: roast your walnuts in your oven first to bring out their natural oils
- Can be stored for up to 4 weeks in a glass jar in your refrigerator, so make extra!
- Optional add-ins: 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice, 2 tsp vanilla extract or powder, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, ½ tsp sea salt, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp pure maple syrup.
- My food processor only took 2 minutes of processing time to achieve the consistency you see in the photos. Check your walnuts at the 2-minute mark, scrape down the sides, process (or blend) for an additional 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides every 2 minutes, repeat until you achieve the silky, smooth nut butter consistency.

Ingredients
- 3 cups raw walnuts
Directions
- Step 1 Spread walnuts on a baking sheet + bake in a 250 degree oven for 10 minutes. Ovens vary, so be careful not to burn your walnuts, watch them closely over the last 2 minutes. They are done when they are golden brown and you see a slight glistening of oil over the tops.
- Step 2 Allow walnuts to cool to room temperature.
- Step 3 Transfer walnuts to food processor or high-speed blender, process until smooth. With my high-powered food processor, the total processing time was only 2 minutes. Check the consistency at the 2-minute mark. Open the top + scrape down the sides + process 2 minutes at a time until you achieve the smooth consistency of the walnut butter similar to mine in the photos. You did it!
- Step 4 After optimal consistency is achieved, toss in any add-ins you are using such as 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. 2 tsp vanilla extract or powder, ½ tsp sea salt. 1 tbsp cocoa powder or pure maple syrup.
- Step 5 Spread on toast, mix into your oatmeal, or eat with a spoon! Store leftovers in a glass jar in your refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
