Cinnamon Oat Milk

Cinnamon Oat Milk

Homemade Cinnamon Oat Milk! YUM! Easy + 4 Ingredients + Dairy-Free + Healthy! This is the perfect dairy free milk alternative that starts with a simple two-ingredient base and can totally be customized!

Oats + Cinnamon + Water + Vanilla

That’s it! Trust me! This is so easy. You can whip this one up in a pinch if you are out of milk and need it for a recipe or breakfast or snack or whatever! Milk alternatives are the way to go! Check out my article HERE on Choosing A Milk Alternative.

I added vanilla and cinnamon to my oat milk but the possibilities are endless! You can add a sweetener if that is your thing. Your options are 2-3 dates (MUST soak them in hot water first for 30 minutes and take the pit out), 1 tablespoon of maple syrup (or honey if you are not vegan), 1-2 tablespoons of cacao powder, or you can totally jazz it up by tossing 8-10 fresh strawberries or a banana into the blender. Do this after straining your oat milk at the very end + give it a few quick pulses to incorporate, YUM!

How NOT to get slimy cinnamon oat milk

I made the first few batches of this and it was super slimy and that was not good. Don’t do that, you won’t like it. Follow my instructions to not get slimy oat milk!

  • use organic rolled oats, not the quick cook kind and not steel cut.
  • don’t soak your oats, yes, you heard me correctly, it makes slime.
  • watch the blend time! it really only needs about 20-30 seconds.
  • don’t use a nut bag to strain, use a fine mesh strainer (I used the one I use to rinse quinoa and it worked great, key word = fine, so that no slime or sneaks through).

Tara’s Tips for Perfect Homemade Cinnamon Oat Milk:

  • Step 1: Place one cup of organic old fashioned oats + 3 cups of water + 1 tablespoon of vanilla + 2 tsp of cinnamon in a blender.
  • Step 2: Watch the clock! Blend in a high speed blender for 20-30 seconds, not more!
  • Step 3: Strain your oat milk in a fine mesh strainer, don’t fuss with it too much and let the slime through. Discard the fragments that stay behind.
  • Step 4: If using sweetener, place your oat milk back in your blender with sweetener of choice and pulse 2 or 3 times, not too much.
  • Step 5: Transfer to a glass jar, chill in refrigerator until use or up to 5 days, enjoy!

What to do with your Homemade Cinnamon Oat Milk:

Add it to your Muesli for breakfast, pour it over your favorite granola click here or here or here for my granola recipes that go fabulously with this milk! You can also drink it as is or use it in your smoothie. One caution, this milk does not heat well, it clumps up so don’t use it when cooking quinoa or oats, it will not work. You can, however, add it to your cooked oats or quinoa to thin it out and add some flavor πŸ’› Hope you love it!
