Air Fryer vs. Oven Baking
I tested these Air Fryer Zucchini fries with coconut milk, almond milk, almond flour, coconut flour, multiple spice varieties, less salt, and more salt. I also tested this recipe using my ovens (one big and one small). The recipe below is the absolute best process for crispy, perfect air fryer zucchini fries. However, you can put these fries in your oven if you choose to. I caution you with the oven method because the fries will take 30 minutes to crisp versus the 10 minutes in the air fryer. In addition, the oven yields a zucchini fry with a more mushy consistency inside. Still awesome, but not as awesome as in the air fryer.
Tara’s Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Zucchini Fries:
- Smoked paprika is optional but I like it here because it mixes well with the nutritional yeast to give it a cheesy, smoky flavor.
- Don’t omit the nutritional yeast! This helps with the flavor and the texture.
- Don’t crowd your air fryer! The batter on the fries with stick to each other and fall off. Therefore, a single layer spaced apart is an absolute must.
- The almond flour/milk are interchangeable with coconut flour/milk or even dairy milk if that is what you have on hand. Just don’t use any flavored or sweetened milks, must be unsweetened.

Air Fryer Zucchini Fries
These air fryer zucchini fries are made without oil, eggs, or dairy. Perfectly crispy, gluten free, easy, yummy, and ready in under 15 minutes!
Ingredients
- 1 large zucchini
- 3/4 cup unsweetened plant based milk (dairy if not vegan)
- 1 cup almond flour
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp garlic powder + onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat Air Fryer to 350 degrees.
- Step 2 Cut zucchini into βfryβ shape by cutting off the ends, then cut the zucchini in half, and in half the other direction, and then cut into fries.
- Step 3 Pour non-dairy milk into one bowl, next to that bowl, combine the remaining dry ingredients in another bowl.
- Step 4 Batter the fries by dipping each fry in the coconut milk and then the dry ingredients. Make sure each fry is evenly coated in the batter.
- Step 5 Place the fries in your air fryer in a single layer. They do not like to be crowded or be placed on top of one another because the batter will come off. Cook for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, check for a golden brown color with crisp edges. If this is not achieved, keep in air fryer for additional time in 5 minute increments. All air fryers vary so watch them closely! Be sure to shake the pan every 5 minutes during cooking.
- Step 6 Carefully remove from air fryer, repeat with additional batches until all fries are cooked. Eat or serve with your favorite dipping sauce!
