Do You LOVE Tempeh? I Do!
Why? Oh so many reasons! This Air Fryer Sriracha Tempeh is just one of them. Another reason I love tempeh is how well it soaks up whatever flavors I choose to cook it in. It is also a superb choice when you are looking for a high protein, plant-based option that isn’t boring!

Tara’s Tips For Perfect Air Fryer Sriracha Tempeh:
- Cut your tempeh into equal size pieces so that they cook evenly. I choose slices for this recipe, but you can do cubes, triangles, or rectangles.
- Adjust your spice level. Like it spicy? Add more sriracha! Not so spicy? Use only 2 tablespoons instead of the 1/4 cup called for in the recipe.
- Boil the tempeh first!!!!! One of the main reasons people think they do not like tempeh is because it has a slightly bitter taste. Personally, I do not like tempeh in its original form, I always boil it. After boiling, the bitter taste is gone!
- I included an option in the cooking instructions to give your tempeh a light spray with olive or avocado oil. If you are completely oil-free, go without it, your tempeh will still be crispy.
- If you have extra time, or need to prep this tempeh ahead of time, you could boil + cut your tempeh, mix up the sriracha sauce, and marinade the tempeh for up to 4-6 hours. This also provides for a more heavily flavored tempeh as it has time to soak up the flavors longer. This recipe turns out just as awesome if you do not allow any time for marinade. I don’t usually plan far enough ahead to let my tempeh soak so as you see it pictured, it went straight from the mixing bowl to the air fryer.
- Don’t crowd your air fryer! Depending on the size you have, you might need to cook these in batches.
