This recipe for Air Fryer Buffalo Tofu is SO EASY. No need to press your tofu, no breading, no frying, no fuss! Perfect for over a salad, paired with sweet potato fries, or simply to dip in vegan ranch, YUM!
I have two secrets to share.Β 1 – I love spicy food and 2 – I never press tofu.
Yep, you heard me correctly.Β Some people swear by it.Β They keep heavy books and cast iron kettles in their kitchen to apply pressure to the tiny little soy bean block to crush all of the water out of it in time for dinner. Here in the MVF kitchen, we would rather spend our time doing other things π€©.
Tara’s Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Buffalo Tofu
- Cut your tofu into equal size pieces so that they cook evenly.Β I chose cubes but you can do sticks (great for dipping), triangles, rectangles, or even slices to make sandwiches out of.
- No pressing! Simply drain all of the water out of the tofu packaging, squeeze the excess water out of the block, and cut it!
- If you don’t have an air fryer you can bake your tofu following my guide right here for perfect oven baked tofu.
- No breading! Again, call me a lazy cook but I do not like the act of breading things.Β Too many bowls and too many ingredients.Β Way too complicated for my taste.Β My method uses nutritional yeast to coat the tofu cubes and give them that crisp coating for the buffalo sauce to stick to. Not sure about incorporating nutritional yeast into your diet? Read my article here all about using nutritional yeast.
- Adjust your spice level.Β I used ‘hot’ buffalo sauce.Β There are mild and medium bottled versions. If you aren’t used to spicy things, start with the mild.Β Be sure to read your labels and choose one with as few ingredients as possible. I used The New Primal Hot Buffalo Sauce.

- Butter or no butter? I choose not to add butter to my Buffalo Tofu but butter does add a silky, rich restaurant quality to the sauce.Β If you are vegan use vegan butter, and if not regular butter will do if you choose that option. As pictured here, I did not add butter.

Air Fryer Buffalo Tofu
Air Fryer Buffalo Tofu perfect for a snack, tossed in a salad, on top of pasta or sliced into a sandwich. The perfect no fuss way to enjoy tofu!
Ingredients
- 14 ounce blocks of firm or extra firm tofu
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
- 1 tbsp vegan butter (optional)
Directions
- Step 1 No need to press your tofu! Simply drain the water out of the packaging and give it a gentle squeeze to get out any excess water.Β
- Step 2 Cut your tofu into equal size pieces (cubes, rectangles, slices, or sticks)
- Step 3 Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees.
- Step 4 While your air fryer is preheating, place the tofu in a glass shallow dish or ziploc bag.
- Step 5 Place the nutritional yeast plus, garlic powder and onion powder in a flour sifter (yes, the kind you use for baking, trust me!) and sift the combination onto your tofu.
- Step 6 Gently stir or shake to coat your tofu with the mixture.
- Step 7 Place your tofu cubes in a single layer in your air fryer. Do not let them touch each other or they will stick together. After 5 minutes of cooking, carefully flip each little cube over and cook for another 5-7 minutes or until crispy brown on the edges. You will need to cook them in batches.
- Step 8 Remove tofu from air fryer and set aside.
- Step 9 Heat buffalo sauce and butter (if using) over medium low heat until bubbly, add tofu cubes in and gently stir until all cubes are coated with the sauce. Reduce heat to low and allow cubes to cook for 5 minutes.
- Step 10 Transfer to serving dish and eat or enjoy immediately! Leftovers can be stored in a glass container in refrigerator for up to 7 days.
