Tara’s Tips For Perfect Easy Black Bean Oat Burgers:
- Black Beans
- Use one can or 1 1/2 cups cooked black beans.
- Oats
- Old fashioned rolled oats are the only oats that work here. Not steel cut, not quick cook. As with all oats, use organic if possible. If you are keeping this gluten free, make sure your package specifically states gluten free, not all oats are.
- Serving Suggestions
- Whole wheat bun, white, gluten free, or even a lettuce bun. Alternatively, you could cut this black bean burger up, put it over a salad, and enjoy with Creamy Vegan Avocado Dressing and Mango Salsa, yum! Pair these guys with Sweet Potato Crinkle Fries or Mexican Mashed Potatoes!
- Leftovers
- First of all, I always make a double batch of these. Second, I cook them. Third, I freeze them in individual containers. Finally, I heat them up one at a time for lunch or a few at a time for family dinner. Simply defrost the burger, then bake in the oven for 7 minutes or microwave for 2 minutes. Easy + healthy! No fuss!
- Spice
- Included in the recipe instructions are jalapenos, ancho chili powder + smoked paprika + cumin. I use 2 jalapenos when I make these burgers for us. If you are sensitive to spice, cut the ancho chili powder to 1/2 tsp and remove the seeds from the jalapenos or use just one. Don’t leave them out! They give the patties a little extra color + texture.
- Processing
- Don’t over-process! Your patties will be mushy!!! Leave a little bit of texture so that they have a little more burger-like feel.
