BBQ Jackfruit Sliders

BBQ Jackfruit Sliders are the perfect plant-based alternative to the pulled pork sandwich. Vegan, gluten free, healthy, low-carb, what more could you ask for?!?! Yep, you got it.Β  BBQ Jackfruit Sliders. Any bun will do, I like mine on toasted sweet potato slices but you could use bread, a roll, or a traditional bun. Sprinkle some shredded cabbage on top, pair it with a side of veggies and you are all set! YUM!! πŸ™‚

Jackfruit Facts:

  • grown on a tree in Southeast Asia, Brazil, & Africa
  • contains no saturated fat or cholesterol
  • high in fiber and potassium
  • has a stringy consistency
  • ripe jackfruit is eaten raw like a fruit or dessert
  • young jackfruit is not as sweet, but has a stringy texture, used in curries, Mexican recipes, or pulled pork recipes

 

How to buy Jackfruit:

  • whole fruit (not always available and difficult to cut)
  • canned
  • in a pouch pre-seasoned or unseasoned (The Jackfruit Co.) – I found mine at Whole Foods in Orlando
  • if you buy the unseasoned or canned, rinse it before using it
  • this is a whole young jackfruit with the skin sold in most Asian groceries or Whole Foods:

How Else Can You Cook Jackfruit?

Jackfruit will take on the flavors of whatever you are cooking. You can substitute jackfruit in lots of curries and Mexican dishes such as my recipe for Jackfruit Mexican Lettuce Wraps.

BBQ Jackfruit Sliders

Vegan, Gluten Free, Healthy, Easy! BBQ Jackfruit is so easy to prepare and is a perfect replacement for pulled pork!

Ingredients
  • 1 can or pouch of Young Jackfruit
  • 1 tsp avocado oil
  • 1/2 cup vegetarian BBQ sauce
Directions
  • Step 1 Drain the water from the can or pouch.
  • Step 2 Heat oil in a medium sized skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Step 3 Once oil is hot add jackfruit and BBQ sauce. Saute for 3-5 minutes. Stir and break up the jack fruit with a spatula during the entire 5 minutes to create small shreds. Once the edges are browning and jackfruit is heated through, remove from heat.
  • Step 4 Serve over toasted sweet potato rounds or on buns or over a salad!
